The Windy Hill Initiative is the vision of local people to protect one of the highest points in peninsular Florida. This unique geological feature embraces the eastern shore of Crooked Lake. The 300 foot summit is 1.5 miles south of Babson Park and is traversed by Scenic Highway.
The local Green Horizon Land Trust is working to acquire properties on Windy Hill through purchase as property becomes available; by conservation easement, or by donation. The intention is to maintain agriculture and open space. We are happy to announce that as of October 2019, two parcels totaling 45 acres are now under protective ownership for agriculture and conservation!
Because of the benefits Windy Hill provides to Crooked Lake, the Defenders of Crooked Lake has committed to matching any donations made before March 2020. Thanks to Defenders members who have already donated, the fund is half way to its match limit of $25,000.
